贺敬之,1924年11月5日生于山东峄县一个贫农家庭。1938年流亡到湖北、四川。1939年(15岁)开始发表诗歌作品。1940年到延安,入鲁迅艺术文学学院学习、工作。这时期的主要作品收入了后来出版的《并没有冬天》、《乡村的夜》等诗集中。1943年后写了《南泥湾》、《翻身道情》、《七枝花》等歌词和《栽树》、《周子山》(与人合作)等秧歌剧。1945年与丁毅等集体创作了歌剧剧本《白毛女》。抗日战争胜利后,在华北解放区工作。先后出版了《笑》、《朝阳花开》等诗集及秧歌剧《秦洛正》等。
1949年到北京工作。1956年至1965年,写了《回延安》、《放声歌唱》、《三门峡歌》、《东风万里》、《十年颂歌》、《桂林山水歌》、《雷锋之歌》、《西去列车的窗口》等长诗。
“文革”中,受林彪、“四人帮”迫害,被剥夺写作和发表作品的权利。1976年10月,发表长诗《中国的十月》。1977年发表长诗《八一之歌》。1984年出版《贺敬之诗选》,1986年出版《贺敬之文艺论集》。1996年出版《贺敬之诗书集》。曾任文化部代部长、中宣部副部长、中国作家协会副主席、全国人大常委、鲁迅文学院院长、中国毛泽东诗词研究会会长等。
He Jingzhi, born in a poor peasant’s family in Yixian County, Shandong Prov. on 5th Nov. 1924. In 1938 he wandered in Hubei Prov. And Sichuan Prov. In 1940 he reached Yan’an and studied at Lu Xun Art and Literature College. His major poems written in those years were recorded in his poetry anthologies published later such as No Winter Exists At All, and Rural Night. In 1943 he wrote some words of songs such as Nanniwan, Seven Pieces of Flowers, Expressing Thankful Feelings After Standing Up and Yangko operas (co-authored with others). In 1945, together with Ding Yi and others, he wrote the opera The White-Haird Girl. After the War of Resistance Against Japan ended, he worked at the liberated area in north China and published some poetry anthologies such as Laugh, Sunflowers Blooming and a Yangko opera Qin Luozheng.
In 1949 he moved to and worked in Beijing. From 1956 to 1965, he wrote quite a few long poems such as Returning to Yanan, Sing Heartily, Song of The Three Gates Gorge, The East Wind Everywhere, Ode to The Past Ten Years, Song of Guilin Landscape, Ode to Lei Feng and Windows of The Train to The West, etc.
During the Great Cultural Revolution he suffered persecution from Lin Biao and the Gang of Four and his right of writing and publishing was deprived. In Oct. 1976, he published a long poem China in Oct; in 1977, he published a long poem Singing on 1st Aug. In 1984 he published Selected Poems by He Jingzhi; in 1986 he published He Jinhzhis Selected Thesises on Literature and Art; in 1996 he published Selected Poems and Penmanship Works of He Jingzhi. He was acting minister of Ministry of Culture, deputy president of Chinese Writers Association, deputy minister of Propaganda Department of the CPC, member of the Standing Committee of National People’s Congress, president of Lu Xun Literature College and president of China Research Institute of Mao Zedong Poems.
