吕剑:原名王延觉,字聘之,号原白,别署一剑。一九一九年九月二日生于山东省莱芜县林家庄。博山颜山初级中学毕业。抗战爆发,离乡流亡于湖北、四川、云南、香港等地,曾任昆明《扫荡报》及香港《华商报》文艺副刊主编。一九四八年春初,进入华北解放区,于北方大学艺术学院任教、华北大学文艺研究室任研究员。四九年一月随军进入北平,参加第一次“文代会”后调入中国作家协会工作。先后任《人民文学》诗歌组长、编辑部主任和《诗刊》编委。五七年“反右”后,戴帽下放涿鹿农村劳动,六二年调回北京,任《中国文学》(英法文版)编辑,六九年又下放“干校”三年,七九年“右派”问题获得“改正”,工作上改任编委。八四年离休。三八年开始写新诗,兼及杂文,旧诗偶有所作。著有《吕剑诗存》、《一剑集》、《倾盖集》(九人旧体诗词合集)等十七种。诗文被选入几十种选本,诗被译为十余种外国文字。
Lü Jian, originally named Wang Yanjue, styled Pinzhi, also known by Yuanbai and with another pseudo-name Yijian, was born in Linjiazhuang, Laiwu County, Shandong Province on Sept. 2nd 1919, graduating from Yanshan Junior Middle School of Boshan. Upon the breakout of Anti-Japanese InvasionWar, he went vagabond in places like Hubei, Sichuan, Yunnan,and Hong Kong, acted as editor-in-chief of artistic supplement of Clean-out Newspaper at Kunming and The Chinese Merchants in Hong Kong. In the early spring of 1948, he entered the liberated area in north China, teaching at the Academy of Arts of the Northern University and acted as a research fellow at the Dept. of Arts of North China University. He entered Beiping with the Army in January, 1949, where he attended the first Congress of Literary Workers and was transferred to work with China Writers’ Association. He acted first as chief of poetry team of Literature of the People, then chief editor as well as editor of Poetry Quarterly. After the Anti-rightist Campaign, he was exiled to labor in a farm in Zhuolu as a Rightist, and was transferred back to Beijing in 1962 to be the editor of Literature of China, (English and French edition). He was again exiled to Cadre’s School in 1969 and stayed for three years. His title as a Rightist was corrected in 1979 and changed job to be an editor. He retired as a privileged cadre in 1984. Ever since 1938, he began to compose new poems and witty and critical essays along with a few old-style poems. His works include over 17 varieties like Collection of Poems of Lü Jian, Collection of Yijian, Collection of Tilted Lid (a cooperative collection of old-style poems by nine poets). His poems and essays have been adopted by several scores of collections, with poems being translated into over scores of foreign languages.
